ISS8 to take place in Vienna 2017

As announced during ISS7 in Nanaimo, Canada the 8th ISS is to take place in Vienna, Europe in September 2017 at the BOKU, University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences. The conference is planned by the hosting organizations BOKU and IGb as a joint European team effort under the thematic umbrella “150 years of decline – how to turn the trend?”

Vienna is located in the heart of Europe and is regarded one of the most beautiful historic capital on the Danube, the conference site therefore is the link between Western and Eastern Europe. It also is the gate to the Middle and Lower Danube.

Conference topics originate from the fields of

- General biology and ecology 

- Status and management of populations

- Historic and present importance of sturgeons on a community level

- Human impacts on sturgeons stocks and mitigation measures

- Aquaculture

- Processing and marketing

- Caviar

- Regulations for conservation and international trade

A major focus for the conservation related topics will be placed on the lessons to learn from successful recovery programs and the intercultural exchange on its prerequisites.

The commercial aspects of sturgeon related research and management will be emphasized by a strong involvement of the aquaculture industry in the conference and its side events.
