The Hatchery Manual focuses on the Azov-Black Sea and Caspian sturgeon specie. It opens with a short general description of the species. The second chapter addresses hatchery design discussing aspects from hatchery location, its structure and means to adapt older facilities. Broodstock, reproduction, rearing techniques are presented and quick tests for quality of stocking material are described. Feeding, hygiene, tagging and sexing practices are presented and discussed to provide an overview and a detailed description of the current methods and techniques applied in hatchery management and day to day work. It is based upon the vast experience of the authors in the development of the Russian "living genebank" program as well as the experience in consultancy of commercial hatcheries for over 2 decades.
